Overdosing on Britsh TV

We had a friend over for a visit on Tuesday night and we sat around and watched several hours worth of British TV, drank tea and ate biscuits. (That would be imported British biscuits, which equal cookies for the non-anglophiles in the audience.) A wonderful evening was had by all.

We watched an episode of the new Doctor Who series, a Red Dwarf, two Fawlty Towers, an IT Crowd and an episode of Little Britain.

And when company left and my wife went off to bed, I sat up and watched an old episode of Inspector Morse.

It’s a fantastic way to spend a night and I recommend everyone give it a try.

  1. That’s cheating- you should get the full experince by sitting through several hours of reality shows, game shows, and CSI to get the true UK TVC experience. But you do get to see “House” too.

Have you seen the “Shakespeare” Who yet?

  2. Yes, and it was fucking brilliant.

  3. Yep- Wife and I were doing a spot the quote thing.

The US may be the worlds superpower now, but being here does have some cultural advantages. On my honeymoon last year we spent a day in Stratford upon Avon. We managed to get tickets for that evening’s performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company led by Patrick Stewart (who is a real actor, despite Trek and X men) at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (owned by the RSC)- ok so it was the Tempest, but hey the RSC at the RST in Stratford.

I had a lunch time pint in a pub that is twice as old as the US. It was used by Cromwell to garrison troops. Makes up a little, for you lot having all the power!
