TV You Didn’t Know About, But Should # 2 – Life On Mars

This one’s really an odd little show. I’m not even really sure how to describe it. The lead character, Sam Tyler, is a London cop in the year 2006. He’s working on a case involving a serial killer. Then he gets hit by a car. When he wakes up, he’s still a cop, but now the year is 1973. And the police are working on the same case he was working on 33 years in the future.

That’s really just the starting point. It gets more twisted as it goes along. The best part of the show, aside from the top notch acting, is watching Tyler bring modern police procedure into the 1973 squad room. It’s all done very carefully and just crackles along.

The problem is how to recommend it to you. It has aired on BBCAmerica in the past, but it is not currently doing so. And it’s not available on DVD. So the best I can do is suggest that you keep your eyes open for it when it eventually becomes available here. It’s worth the wait.

Well There Goes The Afternoon….

There’s this thing….

It does, well, stuff. For some reason.

No, not sure why. Or even what, really.

But it looks neat. And it makes sounds.

And it does stuff……

Jeremiah Says It’s All Right

So, I’m at the bar last night, with my wife, my brother-in-law and a couple of friends. We’re sitting at a big old wooden table, drinking and chatting, as we do, and this odd looking bloke comes up to my wife, gives her a thumbs up gesture and says “Jeremiah Says It’s All Right!”

My wife stares at him for a second and responds with a “what?”

He looks puzzled for a second and asks “are you Tia?”

“Yes,” she answers.

I’m watching closely at this point, in case I have to make this guy go away.

“Jeremiah says it’s all right!” He repeats.

“I don’t know what you want,” she answers.

“Is that your coat?” He points and asks.

“Yes, but I’m not going anywhere.”

“Jeremiah says it’s all right!” He says once again, and wanders off.

Must be something in the water….

TV You Didn’t Know About, But Should # 1 – The Eleventh Hour

A four part series for the BBC, starring Patrick Stewart as Dr. Ian Hood, The Eleventh Hour is part CSI, part X-Files and all gripping TV. Hood is a science advisor for the British Government and in each episode (comfortably clocking in at about an hour and ten minutes per) he tackles a crisis centering around current scientific debates. Global warming, human cloning, outbreaks and a so called miracle cure for cancer. The show is smart, thrilling and occasionally profound.

And it’s available on DVD.

They what?

Rush Limbaugh and Al Gore were each nominated for the Noble Peace Prize today.

I don’t even know what to say about that.

I keep looking around for Rod Serling……..
